I've just posted the post below in another forum section
and time permitting would like delve into this subject further
with PI and any one else who's interested. Don't want to
type the same comments out again and again tho.

Basically - this thread is in relation to the CURRENT & RECENT
Chinese political leadership. Any comments - no matter how
few and far between are appreciated.

League of Doom wrote:I have to second Gustav's comment on this, altho what PI said about
the alternative of Chiang Kai-Shek is also true. In my mind Mao's period
was immediately after the revolution when the old feudal/monarchy/Confucian hierarchy
was turned on it's head sytematically. But it became a case of 'Power corrupts and absolute
power corrupts absolutely'.

While I'm a Deng supporter strongly - I do acknowledge the argument
PI makes often that the balance has gone to far the other way and created
a scenario of massive disparity and rampant capitalism.

These are the debates within the CCP now ... it's not to say that the
end of the story is set in stone.

That's why on many of these China related threads I always try
to say that people should be exploring the disposition of the current
CCP Standing Commitee as it is now. The SC is the central core of
the CCP politburo. They are the key powerbase along with the ex-leaders
ie the Party Elders. Various members have various alignments associated
with former members who facilitated their current positions.
Hu Jintao had a close association with Hu Yaobang for example.
Zemin was a Deng appointee, and Li Peng was the adopted son of
Zhou Enlai, etc etc.

The current SC in the CCP is:

Hu Jintao
Wu Bangguo
Wen Jiabao
Jia Qinglin
Zeng Qinghong
Huang Ju
Wu Guanzheng
Li Changchun
Luo Gan ( a Li Peng aligned member)

these people are probably the key to the political disposition of
China in the near future. Unless you factor in such people as
Wang Dan or Li Ka-shing and the like.

I'm a bit rushed at the moment - please excuse any spelling errors etc
above. Feel free to comment further on the future China political scenario ...
