'World War 2 saw the greatest level of democracy in Britain ever, yet parliamentary elections had been suspended for the duration of the conflict'

From what I know WW2 saw a suspension of Democracy in Britain. I am quite sure Britain had someting similar to the Canadian "War Measures Act" which suspended many democratic rights. Probably better to ask a real Brit on this though, they would be the expert.

I'm not really sure about that.
See, for what I know, Winston Churchill was elected as Prime Minister, and threw Chamberlain, who was against the real needs and worries of the British people, and went against Hitler up to the war that Chamberlain, so energically tried to hide.
The wishes of the people were listened and achieved when the allies broke the blood axis of Rome-Berlin-Tokio.
But only for britons. The Republican rebelion in Ireland, claiming for independence, was brutalized by Churchill, until he came to a treatee, in order to save the English people living in Ireland, with all the money that they sent to England. But the treatee, by Collins and his group, was not accepted by de Valera and his, so the civil war split the country in two, until the Independent Republic of Ireland was recognized, long after the reign of Churchill.
In my opinion, the English people, enjoyed a pure democracy in WW2, but for the colonies, it was different.
Another clear example of the vices of imperialism.

How does this go in the socialism forum? Anyway...

I've got this brilliant article about the 'Churchill myth', I'll have to find it on the web. It argues that he was really far from the great man against fascism and nazism that he is portrayed as - as it's bloody good.

As far as I know, Churchill never would have been elected, being against the war was treason, and the average punter had no say whatsoever in anything going on in the country. What are the arguments for this essay question?
