The failure of the Soviet socialist model doesn't invalidate the Marxian analysis of capital. It just means something went wrong and it needs to be tried again.

It's interesting that for these same people the failure, or rather continued failures, of capitalism in various countries or its various reoccurring crises do not seem to invalidate capitalism for them. It seems that the one-strike rule only applies to socialism.

Even if we narrow our scope to recent decades, since the 1970s, there have been at least a dozen or so crises, and one never hears any defenders of capitalism concede that perhaps it might be time for them to pack their bags and try something else - no, this reality check is reserved for socialists alone.

More importantly, the failures and excesses of liberal revolutions in Europe also do not seem to inform their criticisms of the socialist revolutions in the 20th century.
