No he wasn’t. The idea that Lenin could pass on Russia to his designated heir, like a feudal fiefdom, misses the whole point of the October Revolution. Even Trotsky pointed this out when some of his over-eager foreign supporters tried to claim that Trotsky had been Lenin’s “designated heir” rather than Stalin. Lenin’s famous final letter to the Politburo singled out
all of his colleagues for devastating criticism, not just Stalin. This is why the entire Politburo, to a man, voted to keep it secret. Even Trotsky. Lol.
