I disagree, on all counts. Please elaborate.

Perhaps he's got some kind of a far-right-style point of view, but it's a result of stupidity and ignorance, not a firm and valid ideological belief.

Powerful arguments, ''he is stupid because he is stupid''

Odds are good that you're far right with that particular choice of words. Monarchy is as reactionary as it gets in America, conservative is right-wing by defintion, libertarianism is a somewhat unique ideology but can be a form of palingetic (ie, reactionary) ultranationalism in America (since it seeks to go back to a supposedly pure time), and nationalism if you're not from the Third World tends toward the far right. Oh, and your avatar is Robert E. Lee. Am I wrong?

I do tend to be very right-wing on most issues. However, I also do wind up being very liberal on a few issues (hence the whole libertarian aspect). I don't tend to view libertarian as reactionary, at least in the sense you seem to mean it. I see nationalism, at least in the modern, industrialized sense, as far more reactionary than a libertarian philosophy. And I just happen to love the idea of a monarchy.

And yes, it is Lee. Had to throw a little tribute to my Southern Heritage in here somewhere.

Dave was referring to the fact that libertarians want to return to a supposed status quo ante, which they thought was a better society. I'm a little more skeptical of the claim given that while libertarians themselves tend to be American crypto-nationalists, libertarianism is still in many ways a liberal ideology.

Well, I agree with this in some ways, but realistically, a great many conservatives (and Ron Paul taggers) feel just the opposite. Natural law and all that. I happen to agree wholeheartedly with the libertarian views on most things, save a few issues (such as legalization). Hence my initial cries of despair, given that no one seems to be able to agree on exactly where the Libertarians fall. As for the whole crypto-nationalists line... I'm not sure if I follow you, House. How does that relate to your skepticism?

In extreme generality however, I tend to be a supporter of Natural Law philosophy, which happens to be why I wind up carpet bombing the political spectrum.

Libertarianism is a liberal ideology because it is socially progressive (related to left-liberalism), and neoliberal (related to right-liberalism). It is an extreme individualist ideology, which in its purest forms fundamentally rejects society and group morality. Hence my skepticism of Dave's claim of it as a reactionary ideology, as its only reactionary trait is its wish to return society to a time in history it considered more pure.

And when you put it that way, I suppose you're correct in classifying libertarian as liberal. I tend to be more drawn towards the economically libertarian perspective, which is far more conservative. And I wouldn't agree that pure libertarians necessarily reject society and group morality. Because it seems, when it comes to practical issues, as though the more pragmatic side of libertarians would win over, in which case, it could manifest itself as reactionary.

As for God... guilty as charged.

Then your adherence to natural law philosophy makes more sense. Atheist deontological libertarians make no sense, as Lockean natural rights philosophy holds natural rights to be derived from God.

Personally I'm agnostic, undecided between scientific materialism, mysticism or both. I've always believed Abrahamic religions to be more or less bullshit, though I respect those who follow them.

Welcome to Pofo BTW. You seem like you're gonna be a great addition to the forum. :)

I guess Christian Democrat from those options, though the term makes me feel a bit queezy. I could have picked other because of my Georgist leanings, but in terms of left-to-right I consider myself slightly right of centre, so went with that.

I'm liberal and conservative, nationalist and cosmopolitant, socialist and capitalist, law keeper and anarchist at the same time.

O_O

p.s.
and no- i'm not just "moderate"- i can hold two extreme opinions, one of them will be on a pro socialist issue and one of them on an extreme calitalist manner. so this is extremism in the both hedges rather than a middle.
