check out this game... a book... forgot the name... but he is the programmer/creator of Mathematica.... said that it is a good example of how evolution works... how just a tiny change can make such a big difference... it is quite interesting... check out the game. and the book if you find out the title.

One problem with this is that, under the premises of materialism, phenomenal consciousness cannot—by definition—have a function. According to materialism, all entities are defined and exhaustively characterised in purely quantitative terms.

Just found the article and its thesis, above, and thought I'd post it to this thread -- I'll note that the author actually means 'reductionism' instead of 'materialism'.
