My bad -- I can see that the wording is such that someone could misread 'socialist' as referring to the Nazis, but I meant it to apply to the USSR.
So it should read:
The USSR *defeated* the Nazis in WWII, but even the USSR had its own elitism and increasing class-like stratification.
