For those of you who dont know. appeasement is the policyin which you basically let the enemy do whatever the hell he/she wants, hoping his/her demands will stop. It was used in the 20th centruy in various ocassions. The remilitarisation of Germany, the take over of the Sudetendland, the take over of Czechoslovakia. Many argue that this was the correct policy to take at the time, many claim that it was exactly this what started the second world war.
There were several factors which may apply. For example, neither Britain nor France were in the position of authority to stop the rising Hitler, and he had just signed the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact, so he had a clear way to go to Poland. Poland was just in their front door, no way the could allow this and bang, THEN they declare war.
On the other hand, Hitler had stipulated in Mein Kampf what he wanted, and he was going to get it, one way or another. the Lebensraum for example, Anschluss, these are things he was GOING TO DO. One may
argue that the appeasement only saved an earlier war an postponed it.
