I'm glad this is likely happening...

If Ciggy companies can't advertise at all, why do we have to put up with this shit during(and at) our sports events?

Want to find out the latest odds? take a walk down to the fucken TAB(not that hard, especially if you're at the game itself)!

Or go to their dang website(once again not that hard, just do it on your dang smartphone!)...

Their ads, of any type, should be fully banned during G rated broadcasts(except let them keep their broadcasting mention as a Sponsor, but not during the ad break).

The TAB was brought in as a government organisation to end this explotative gambling shit, and they've only made it much much worse since they went private and started really pushing for profit. Yeah, the Mafia's and illegal bookmakers influence was ended by their creation as a government organisation, but now they're acting like the corporate assholes that they are and the gambling situation is worse now then when they were created.

I would prefer it if they bloody well went back to being a publically owned organisation..... Never thought I'd ever say that about any of the privatised corporations, but I'd make an exception for this one.

Lol, Tom Waterhouses' fuck up has probably brought this issue to a head... And Gai is my personal favourite trainer when I have a punt. But I guess her Son isn't exactly intelligent enough to realise he can't talk to mum about the wellbeing of her horses without it looking suss. Probably should have follower her into Horse training instead of using his famous last name to get a career in Gambling operations. The TAB was supposed to end this sort of shit from happening...

On this occasion it's justified. Who is seriously going to argue that G rated programs should include advertising for Gambling...

We don't even allow Smoking ads to be played ANYWHERE, and no one in their right mind would disagree with that.

Tom Waterhouse is just the scapegoat for wider issues in this industry.

Besides, the TAB was a government organization at first, originally setup to stop the very practises that they, as a private organization, are NOW DOING.

Adults who CAN legally gamble, watch G rated programs, too.

Gambling isn't physically harmful to the gambler or the people around him. Smoking is, and thus, was made illegal to do in certain places, and at certain ages.

What this is is sport including Australian Football. So it's important.

Fuck the nanny state thing ... I want the state to rule with an iron fist on this one. Hit the sports betting companies with a big stick and tell them to shut up and stop annoying sports fans with satuatration marketing of their product they are trying to flog.

Australian sports coverage is too polluted as it is with cross-marketing. I want to watch sport without being bugged to bet on it.

Lucky I get the AFL on Australia Network Asia cable service which has none of those dickie ads in between. Tom Waterhouse seems like a complete dickhead. If the government feels it's best to just kill him ... I'm ok with that.

Gambling is not porn(which cannot be legally viewed by minors), and has not been promoted on TV. The comparison to promotion of gambling on TV is asinine.

As an annoyance factor, I can understand being against it, but it should be addressed by the sport, and not the state.

And there's the fucking option you want! No state involvement, either.

More examples of open discrimination against the working class. If we tried to ban things that middle class people like (vegetarianism, homosexually etc) it is discrimination but things working class people like (gambling, smoking etc) are perfectly acceptable targets.

No different to any other product. I'd like to watch sports without being bugged to buy 'huggies' nappies. or libra fleur pads, or Uncle Toby's Oats, or save the bears fund etc etc etc

Where does it end?

Juliar doesn't like the sports betting agencies because of the high odds they've got listed on her to win the election in Sept......that's probably the real reason... .......otherwise why the hell didn't she have this holier than thou policy years ago and WHY did she water down Wee Willy Wlikie's pokie hangup reforms?

It's the 'Nanny State' and no mistake......

I must admit I do find them annoying, but I would be interested to see what evidence there is for the rationale behind this ban, ie has any work been done to show a correlation in the increase in problem gambling since the odds have been shown? To me this just seems like a ploy to appease the anti-gambling lobby since Gillard did sfa about the pokies.

I think the "rationale" is basically that people are utterly sick to death of Tom Waterhouse. Sporting odds have been part of the broadcast for a while now, but its only since Tom Waterhouse's "in your face" shoving betting down our throats that has tipped the public over the edge. He's the sort of guy who has that sort of an effect on people. Just look at him, have you ever seen a more obnoxious face?

Gillard is merely reacting to the massive public backlash - and as usual she has watered her response down as far as she can.

As I said, the TAB was supposed to end this sort of shit... but privatising the betting industry, and allowing it to become a commercial venture, has wrecked it ALL OVER AGAIN.
